5 Thoughts For Worship Leaders

1.

Remember, First & Foremost YOU ARE A WORSHIPER

What makes us great worship leaders is that we are great worshipers. It wasn’t King David’s gifting and talent that God was drawn to; it was his heart after God. The greatest calling we have in life is to know Christ. This has got to be our highest priority. Never forget why you got into worship ministry, it was because you loved God and you loved to worship. We are worshipers before we are worship leaders.

2.

Worship Leading Is The Art Of Hospitality

When people are coming over to your house for dinner, what do you do? You tidy up, you dim the lights, you set the table, you get the mood right. In the same way, worship leading is about creating an atmosphere in our churches that is warm, loving, and uplifting. We've got to lead worship with that same heart. It’s not just about how we sound or what we say but it’s about having a genuine love for people.

3.

The Holy Spirit Does The Convicting, Not Us

It’s not our job as worship leaders to make people worship. I remember as a young worship leader getting frustrated if the congregation wasn't responding the way I wanted them to. We have got to understand that it is the Holy Spirit that convicts hearts and it’s our job to usher in His presence to the meeting. We still need to step out and go the bold but we have got to make sure we don’t get ahead of the Holy Spirit. The more we learn to follow His lead off the stage the more we will be in His flow on the stage.

4.

Be Authentic & Stay True To Yourself

The worship experience and expression will differ from church to church. It is important that you know the vision of your leaders and culture of worship in your church while at the same time being true to yourself. People can tell when you are not being yourself. People are looking for authenticity. God anoints who he has called you to be, not who you are trying to be. Your identity is found in Christ so stop looking for it in others.

5.

Pray & Read The Bible - Every Day!!!

At the end of the day, the only thing we can minister out of is our relationship with God. If we are not in prayer, if we are not in the word, if we are not having regular God encounters, then what are we leading out of? Similar to my first point, our relationship with God has got to be at the top of list. Prayer and the Word is not an option, it’s a lifeline. It enables us to live above our emotions, break through our insecurities and be filled with fresh fire and passion.
